Try it: one worker, one state

What it catches

These are the places where a quote or a salary structure most often goes wrong.

Basic + DA below the state minimum

A quote can show a healthy gross and still put too little in Basic + DA. The shortfall is a wage default, and as principal employer it can come back to you.

The 50% wage rule

Under the Code on Wages, allowances above 50% of remuneration count as wages. PF, gratuity and bonus are then worked on the higher base.

ESIC runs on wages, not gross

ESIC is worked on Basic + DA plus any allowances above 50% of pay. While that base is ₹21,000 or less the employer pays 3.25% and the employee 0.75%. Above it, ESIC disappears.

The PF ceiling moved to ₹25,000

From 17 September 2026 the wage ceiling for PF, EPS and EDLI is ₹25,000, up from ₹15,000. Every calculation here uses the new ceiling.

Costs left out of the monthly rate

Gratuity, bonus, leave cover and EDLI are real. Quotes that leave them out look cheaper. The full-load line puts them back so quotes compare like for like.

Where the rates come from

Minimum wages change every April and October in most states, and in January and July in some. Each rate carries a status, so you can see how much to trust it.
